Art that is comically cosmic

Whether it was Archie having to chose between Veronica or Betty or Suppandi not being able to function in the real world, our age old comic books helped us escape the real world and travel to one filled with fantasy and fun.

Art is merely a reflection of the artist’s mind and individual interaction with the environment. It’s aim is to help the audience ponder over something that they would have otherwise not payed heed to, or to engage in conversation that contradict their beliefs.

An Artist And His Universe

Appupen is the artist behind the world of HalaHala and one of the minds that thought of Brainded India, where a "collective of artists use comics and humor to encourage independent thought, dissent and diversity."

"We certainly live in difficult times, we must do anything to combat these harsh realities even if that means through the medium of art"

A Teacher And His Art

The aim of every artist is one and the same in this regard, for example Sir Clyde D'mello a teacher at a design institute in Bangalore draws his inspiration from the literature pieces of Dante and the like. His illustrations bring life to word heavy literature pieces.

In the video he illustrates a demon named Moloch, "symbolic of the state of industrial civilization who can be found in the poem ‘Howl’ written by American poet and philosopher, Alan Ginsberg. Although Moloch was written for a different time it is also applicable for our present day world leaders who consider money superior to man."

A Girl And Her Cat

The photo feature contains the work of Aditi Mali, (@goodbadcomics), She illustrates the difficulty of being different and not abiding by generic norms set up by society. Mali draws comic pieces based on events that take place in her life. . Her work resonates with her 71k followers because the events, be it moments of existential crisis or one’s of utter dismay "can form the basis of everybody’s daily endeavors with life."

“I draw my inspiration from everyday life and my cat Maau, happens to inspire me greatly. He plays a huge role in both life and in my comics.”

The comic art world in Bengaluru is slowly picking up pace with many artists becoming more and more popular each day.
