Weavers and craftsmen of dreams
Almost in every house, there is at least one furniture that is made out of bamboo. It can be of any kind, most common ones like chairs, stools, and side tables or as part of the household decorations. But do the people who made those items ever cross our minds? The weavers or the craftsman behind the beautiful items are never praised enough and also mostly no one acknowledges them at all.
The person in the video is Kumar Sain, he came all the way from Uttar Pradesh to Bengaluru in search of work. He is a weaver, indeed an artist but he did not actually call himself that because he has never been called an artist. For him, his work is just weaving, tying up the bamboo sticks in a certain way to make a useful item for others and so he could earn a handful of money to support his children.
He learned this weaving work from his mother, so basically it's their family tradition to weave and they pass on their skills from generation to generation. They too know marketing is very difficult in big cities but still he comes to Bengaluru in the hope of earning more than he does in his hometown.
He has been engaged in this work for 25 long years without much acknowledgment from others. He sits with his friends on the side of the road in Palace Road every day. They charged a very decent amount for their items which also does not give them much profit but they have to in order to attract buyers. They sometimes move to Hosur Road when the sales rate is not so favorable in Palace Road.
